I've always rooted for the underdog. Probably because I've been one myself.
Growing up, I was told I was too small to play Division I soccer and had bad asthma. I didn't listen and was recruited to play NCAA DI soccer and even had the incredible opportunity to train alongside the my idols like Carli Lloyd and Abby Wambach while my coach was on the World Cup team. I've always loves a good challenge, especially when someone told me I couldn't do something. Maybe it was playing sports like basketball with my brother and dad or the neighborhood boys.
Movies like Remember the Titans and Hoosiers have always stuck with me because I believe in what happens when people stop accepting limitations and start believing in themselves.
My passion for health and fitness eventually led me into the medical and pharmaceutical world, where I spent 10 years learning the industry from every aspect to asking questions. I couldn't understand why we were so focused on managing symptoms instead of figuring out WHY people were struggling in the first place. That curiosity pushed me toward holistic nutrition and a completely different way of looking at health.
Today, as a Pilates and Lagree instructor, certified holistic nutrition coach, lifelong athlete, certified personal trainer, and most importantly mother, I have a holistic appoach to health and lifestyle.
I've helped people lose over 65 pounds, quit smoking, and go from never running a mile to finishing a marathon in 9 months. And nothing makes me happier than watching someone do something they genuinely believed they couldn't.
I don't believe your past, your age, your size, or someone else's opinion gets to determine what your capable of.
I've never been very good at accepting things just because "that's the way it's always been done". I spent 10 years working in the medical and pharmaceutical industries, and somewhere along the way, I started noticing patterns and asking questions that I couldn't ignore. I wanted the truth.
Why were we so focused on managing symptoms instead of understanding what was causing them? Why wasn't nutrition, fitness and lifestyle a bigger part of the conversation? Why did it seem everyone was so sick - including the doctors? And why did it seem like we were overlooking how much our everyday choices impact our health?
Growing up I had severe asthma and every cold and flu season I would be on a nebulizer and inhaler due to bronchitis. I played outside mid in college and was known for being fit and in great running shape, I truly believe that we can overcome anything if we want to, especially being an athlete my entire life and focusing so much on nutrition in college. I knew firsthand how powerful movement, nutrition and mindset can be. But seeing healthcare from the inside made me realize that I wanted to approach things differently. The pharmaceutical industry is a Billion Dollar industry, what would happen to all those drug companies and their government contracts if everyone was simply healed themselves and got to the root cause instead of temporarily covering up the symptoms?
I didn't want to just help people feel better temporarily. I wanted to help them understand their bodies, take ownership of their health, and realize how much influence they have over their own well-being.
That's what led me towards holistic nutrition and going back to school to become a certified coach. Eventually I discovered pilates and it fit perfectly with my mindset - become so self aware with your body that you become unstoppable. Sometimes the biggest turning point something that happens to you, it's when you start questioning what you've always been told and realizing what you're truly capable of.
I LOVE challenging beliefs and proving limitations wrong. I don't believe there is any one right answer and every client has a bio-individuality that makes them a unique person. I've always believed our bodies are capable of so much more than we give them credit for. Sometimes we just need someone to believe in us, challenge us and remind them what were capable of.
I love coaching athletes in Pilates because I see all the benefits of it that I wish I knew about growing up - injury prevention, mobility, flexibility and just self awareness in ourselves. It's not just about getting stronger, but its about building confidence. resilience and trusting your own body.
I want you to leave class feeling stronger than when you walked in, physically and mentally. Well work hard, we'll laugh, and yes, we'll probably shake a little.
